Racism in its various forms including internalized, interpersonal, institutional, and structural have reared its’ harmful effects on mental health and catalyzed a detrimental cycle of trauma in communities of color. Exposure to racial trauma has been positively correlated with secondary traumatic stress, increased burnout, psychiatric illness, and higher rates of suicide in communities of color.
