Atypical Anorexia Nervosa (ATAN) is one of the most common eating disorders and is defined by the DSM-5 as being present when an individual meets all criteria for anorexia nervosa but presents in a weight range that appears 'normal'. ATAN has been shown in studies to be just as clinically severe as anorexia nervosa, but much controversy surrounds its management.
